CHIO Aachen – The Equestrian Sports Paradise
Anyone who steps into the grassy arena of CHIO Aachen even once is touched by something special. The world’s most prestigious international equestrian competition lived up to its reputation again this year: the 2025 Rolex Grand Prix delivered an unforgettable afternoon, culminating in Martin Fuchs and Leone Jei making history.
The World’s Best Riders in One Place
CHIO (Concours Hippique International Officiel) Aachen is a multi-day, multi-discipline equestrian event held since 1924. The competition’s center is the famous Soers Arena, where the world’s top riders compete in show jumping, dressage, driving, eventing, and vaulting.
This is not “just” a competition but a pinnacle of equestrian sport, and it is also part of the prestigious Rolex Grand Slam — winning here means eternal glory.
The Aachen Grand Prix is more than a competition — it’s a festival, a celebration, and one of the Grand Slam events of show jumping. With a total prize fund of €1.5 million, one of the world’s most technical course designers (Frank Rothenberger), an enthusiastic crowd of 40,000 spectators, and the best riders in the world (in 2025, 8 out of the top 10 riders in the world rankings competed here).
In the Sunday Rolex Grand Prix, 40 riders tackled two rounds of extremely challenging courses. After the first round, the top 18 qualified for the second round, where riders with double clear rounds advanced to the jump-off.
We cheered for competitors such as the superstar pair Richard Vogel and United Touch S, and Christian Ahlmann with Dourkhan Hero Z. A total of 11 pairs made it to the jump-off, but only 4 managed double clear rounds: Stephan de Freitas Barcha and Chevaux Primavera Imperio Egipcio from Brazil, Steve Guerdat and Dynamix de Belheme from Switzerland, Laura Kraut and Baloutinue from the USA, and the winning pair Martin Fuchs and Leone Jei, also from Switzerland.
